The Cat Stretch: Increase Flexibility of Spine & Paraspinal Muscles

Most of us are facing back spinal pain. The cause of this sort of pain depends on our working, sitting, exercising style. Main reason that I have found is lower flexibilty of back spinal muscles. When you have enough flexibility that can help your body to do work, to sit for longer time or do a lot of exercise or anything else. We have a very flexible exercise generally known as The Cat Stretch. We observed so many times cats moving around us. They stretch their back bone by leaning down and rounding back bone. This is what we are going to do today.

The Cat Stretch: Spinal Flexiblity
Exercise is very simple just follow below steps.

The Cat Stretch Normal Position

  • On hands and knees
  • Straight arms, hands straight under shoulders
  • Knees straight under your hips
The Cat Stretch: bent spine downward by looking upward
  • Inhale as you drop tummy towards the floor and look up by stretching your neck upward.
  • Hold that position for 15-20 seconds then back to normal position & relax.
  • Repeat this for 5 to 10 times.

The Cat Stretch: bent spine upward by looking downward
  • Now stretch in opposite direction by bending back spine upward and head downward
